Answer four setup questions and get a practical Storyteller recommendation for your next save. This does not replace the full settings list below; it helps you avoid a first-week setup that fights your play style.
Recommended setup
Maxence, then customize lightly
Balanced starting funds, auto-needs at work, and forgiving family odds make Maxence the safest first save.

Real variety comes from custom settings.
Pick the look you like, then tune settings to match how you want to play.
First-Save Settings Audit
Storyteller settings are not just difficulty sliders. They decide what kind of story your save can comfortably support. Review these three pressure points before your first long play session.
Money pressure
If you mostly build, reduce money stress. If you want a life-management story, keep bills meaningful so jobs and side income matter.
Time pressure
Longer lifespans support slow families and skill arcs. Shorter pressure fits challenge runs but punishes indecision during week one.
Workday safety
Automatic needs at work help new saves survive. Turn them down only when you want commute, hunger, and planning to become part of the challenge.
Which to Choose?
🏗️ Build & decorate focus
Stella + bills off + high starting funds
Focus on building without money interruptions.
🎮 First life-sim playthrough
Maxence default settings
Balanced intro to every major system.
👨👩👧👦 Multi-generation families
Maxence + Long lifespan + high twins chance
More time per generation and livelier family trees.
💪 Challenge players
Ricardo + Short lifespan + higher bills
Tight time and money — rewards planning.
Your First Save: Preset, Then Three Tweaks
Storyteller is the first real fork in a new household. The portrait is cosmetic—you can keep Stella's dog face on Maxence's numbers—but the preset still sets starting Paradimes, twin odds, and whether Paras auto-eat at work.
Default to Maxence for a first playthrough
Maxence is the balanced default: 30,000 ₱ start, auto eat and toilet at work, and the highest twin (20%) and triplet (10%) rates. You learn careers, bills, and aging without Ricardo-level friction.
Pick Stella when building is the main goal
Stella starts you at 35,000 ₱, keeps work auto-needs on, and softens harsh story beats. Pair her with normal bills if you still want light money tension—or turn bills off only after you understand what they fund.
Save Ricardo for a second save
Ricardo disables auto eat and toilet at work, so shifts punish low Energy harder. Twin and triplet odds drop to 5% / 1%. Use him when you already know the job panel—not on day one.
Three settings worth touching early
Life Stage Duration (Short / Normal / Long), household Aging on/off, and Bills on/off change how rushed your story feels. Everything else can wait until you have paid one rent cycle.
Portrait swap does not change difficulty
Customize Storyteller lets you rename and re-portrait any preset. Modifiers stay tied to the base you picked—swap looks freely, but read the numbers before confirming.
- check_circleOpen Storyteller from ESC or the top-right ⋮ menu anytime; changes apply immediately.
- check_circleFamily saves: bump twin odds only after you can afford extra cribs and daycare.
- check_circleDuplicate the household before cranking bills or shortening lifespan—mistakes are reversible but stressful mid-week.
expand_more All 13 settings — full reference (expand when tuning) Life-stage day tables and every toggle—collapsed so you pick Stella / Maxence / Ricardo first. For Story vs Sandbox save habits after you pick presets, see the guide’s two-slot checklist.
